Each month, we stop over 1.5 billion cyberattacks all around the globe thanks to our unrivaled threat detection network, which is why businesses and individual users alike love both our free and paid antivirus protection.
Like computers, Android devices are vulnerable to malware and other security threats. And especially in recent years, Android malware has only grown more common. AVG AntiVirus for Android is a powerful cybersecurity tool that can defend your Android device against a wide range of threats, absolutely free. Not only can AVG AntiVirus for Android unsafe Android apps, and helps you track down your phone in case it gets lost or stolen.
Yes. Although less common, Android and iOS devices can still get viruses despite their built-in phone security. Threats like viruses and malware can enter through external sources, such as third-party applications, malicious websites, and iMessage links.
Mobile malware and viruses can affect the performance of the device and its stored applications. The symptoms of an infected phone can easily be detected by observing its behavior. Here are easy ways to tell if your phone caught a virus.
A free antivirus app can offer some degree of phone protection against malware. However, as cybercriminals are constantly evolving, our Standard and Plus plan can deliver more holistic protection, giving you advanced features such as content back up, 24/7 support, and VPN for your mobile devices.
Android users can download the McAfee Mobile Security app from the Google Play store, while Apple users can get it from the App store. Get started by installing the app and following the on-screen instructions.
To keep your Android safe from malicious apps, Norton scans apps before you download them to your device and alerts you in case the apps in question contain viruses and malware. It also scans all of the existing apps on your device and flags apps that collect too much sensitive data, use too much data or battery, or in any other way present a risk to your device or data.
It also has free anti-theft protection, which lets you lock your phone and allows you to check its location on the Kaspersky website, your smartwatch, or the Kaspersky desktop app. The anti-theft tools also include remote data wipe, a selfie capture function, and a remote alarm.
Sophos Intercept X is a good free Android app, and it allows users to keep their devices safe without becoming overwhelmed. Its malware scanner can be set to run periodically, and its various adviser features give you the information needed to keep your phone secure. It also comes with additional features like a two-factor authenticator, a password generator, and an app lock.
Avira offers the best free Android app on the market and includes an on-demand malware scanner, real-time protection, a Wi-Fi scanner, anti-theft tools, an app privacy scanner, and a data breach scanner. However, Avira is more of an exception to the rule in terms of security features for free antiviruses.
Norton provides excellent antivirus protection along with a number of other useful features, including dark web monitoring (by far the best dark web monitoring of any antivirus app) and a fast VPN with unlimited browsing data, whereas Avira also has a solid anti-malware engine, along with a free (but limited) VPN and device optimization tools.
To protect yourself against malicious apps, I recommend using Norton Mobile Security. Not only does it have a powerful malware scanner, but it also alerts you to suspicious apps before you download and install them.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free is a free antivirus software especially designed to protect your Windows PC. Quick to install and light on computer resources, it is good for gaming, image and video editing, and resource-intensive applications.
Windows 11 lets you run the antivirus program of your choosing, and Bitdefender Antivirus Free for Windows is the perfectly optimized option if you need a powerful antivirus software loaded only with the bare-bones protection features that every computer needs.
Need protection on more operating systems Bitdefender Total Security offers cross-platform protection that covers Windows PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets running Android or iOS for up to 10 devices. Bitdefender Total Security also includes a basic VPN with up to 200 MB per day of encrypted traffic for your devices.
Every month the Avira Antivirus Scanner detects over 350,000 threats to Android. Protect your Android phone from viruses and get many more safety features to keep your mobile device and personal data secure.
The Android virus scan protects your phone from serious threats and provides reassuring assistance if you lose your phone. But our free virus protection for Android also includes additional advanced security features:
Avira Antivirus Security helps you protect your Android device from millions of mobile threats. And in addition to antivirus protection, the Android app includes many other security features. Thanks to the VPN, you can surf anonymously and encrypt your traffic for greater protection on unsecured public Wi-Fi hotspots. The network scanner shows you all the devices connected to your home network, and the identity protection feature notifies you if your email address has been leaked. The anti-theft tools help you locate your device if it ever gets lost or stolen, plus you can lock it remotely to protect it from unauthorized access. The premium version adds web protection to help you block malicious and phishing websites as well as camera and microphone protection to prevent you from being spied on via your microphone or camera.
Samsung takes your security seriously and has partnered with McAfee to provide pre-installed anti-malware protection on your Galaxy phone. Flagship Samsung smartphones, including the sensational Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, Galaxy S21 series and the latest Galaxy A series come pre-installed with McAfee anti-malware protection.
Samsung Knox provides another incredible layer of security. Built into Samsung devices including the epic Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, Galaxy Z Flip3 5G and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, you can be safe in the knowledge that your Galaxy phone is secure from the moment you unpack it and turn it on. The Knox platform contains security mechanisms that protect your data from malware and malicious threats. You can find a full list of Knox supported devices here.
Whilst viruses and malware do not pose a significant threat to your Galaxy phone due to Samsung's industry leading security features, it is still important to be vigilant to a virus attack. The signs that your phone has been infected with a virus or malicious malware include:
Be aware that unscrupulous advertisers will often use 'your device is infected' pop-ups to persuade you to click on them. These can be malware or phishing attempts, but they can also be trying to persuade you to download an app or visit their website. These pop-ups will usually turn up while you are browsing the Internet and signs that they are not genuine include continual buzzing, bright flashing lights or garish text.
Galaxy security software will be working hard to keep your phone secure from any threats to your personal data. Samsung devices operating Android 7 (Nougat) and above will automatically run a diagnostic check to ensure your phone is protected. Your Galaxy phone is set to automatically optimise itself once a day and check for any security threats. You can find out more information on our Device Care page.
Most malware can be removed by performing a factory reset on your phone. Before you undertake a factory reset you need to ensure that you have saved any data you want to access after you perform the reset, otherwise you run the risk of losing it all. Follow the steps below to factory reset your Galaxy phone:
Malware is ultimately designed to generate revenue for cybercriminals. If you leave malware or viruses on your phone cybercriminals can access your data and steal your personal information for illicit purposes.

Hi so yesterday while I was on Safari looking for the meaning off my name an ad popped up saying I had 3 viruses and to install a certain app so I did through the App Store it was on my phone for 5 minutes until I uninstalled it. I understand now that it was a hack but I fear that when I downloaded that app a virus was installed in my phone or that it got hacked if so how can I remove it please help.
The iPhone cannot be infected with a virus unless it has been jailbroken. You didn't get 3 viruses, you simply got a popup to try and get information from you. If you receive these again, it is a java script from the website you were at. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website data. Then power off the phone and back on again, then go about your surfing. Downloading the app was not a hack, and installing an app from the App Store cannot hack or install a virus on your iPhone either. Installing and scanning your iPhone with an anti-virus is not necessary, and it cannot successfully scan your device anyway due to the sandboxing feature of iOS. You will be just fine from deleting the app and clearing your web history. 59ce067264
